35-year-old Dan De Kraai, a five-year veteran of the St. Joseph, Missouri police department was unintentionally shot in the back and killed by a fellow officer during a training exercise. The officers had just finished the training when the shooting happened.
According to a spokesman, "During training they do not carry live rounds. These particular officers had gone on a break and usually when they do go on break, they usually do go back to live rounds. Working in situations like this we usually have a motto, 'Check once, check twice, check a third time.' That protocol is in place to keep this from accidentally happening. Something like this, when it's not followed, you have a tragedy like we're dealing with today"
Ohh shoot.
