Navy reviewing armed watch crewman after machine gun unintentionally fired

The naval base in Norfolk, Virginia is reviewing armed watch crewman, weapons qualifications and training documentation after four unintentional gunfire incidents this year. Three of the incidents involved machine guns, in the other incident a sailor shot himself in the foot with a handgun.
In July a machine gun was fired toward downtown Norfolk from the deck of a ship. A spokesman for the Navy could not specify how far a round from a machine gun would travel. "Far enough for us to determine we needed to contact the Norfolk police to investigate the area across the river within the range of the weapon," he said.
Ohh shoot.
