49-year-old Carolyn Walker and her longtime boyfriend, 57-year-old Roosevelt Griffin were trying to break up a dog fight in their Indianapolis, Indiana neighborhood. Their neighbor's dog was being attacked by a stray pit bull and she was crying for help. Roosevelt went to respond. Before he left his home he told Carolyn to grab his handgun. Carolyn took the gun and followed Roosevelt across the street but as she was heading up some stairs she tripped and unintentionally discharged the gun. The bullet hit Roosevelt in the face. He was taken to Wishard Hospital where he died of his injury.
Police said their investigation shows the shooting was an accident and no charges are anticipated.
