17-year-old unintentionally shoots and kills his mother

A 17-year-old Selah, Washington youth was examining a handgun he had received as a present when he unintentionally discharged the weapon. The bullet went though a wall and hit his mother, 33-year-old Vonda Willis-Jean, in the head. She was taken to the local hospital but died soon after.
"It was a real sad deal," said the local chief of detectives. "He had just received a handgun as a gift and was manipulating it somehow when it discharged."
The sheriff's office has called the incident an accident and no charges have been filed.
