39-year-old Dennis Bragg of Metairie, Louisiana was battling depression and alcoholism following the breakup of his marriage. On September 23, 2007, he was at his sister's house when he decided to take his life.
Bragg had his pistol loaded when his 14-year-old son Riley found him and tried to intervene. In the struggle that followed Riley was shot in the face. He died two days later.
Bragg was charged with negligent homicide. Riley's mother told the court she did not want to see Bragg serve time in jail and asked that instead he be confined to house arrest and ordered to give lectures to youth on gun safety. Last week, the judge sentenced Bragg to five years of probation.
Ohh shoot.
