The gun belonged to the friend's deceased grandparents and his sister had brought it home while cleaning out the grandparents' house. The friend removed the gun's magazine and the two boys were looking at the gun when the friend accidentally dropped it. He was taken to a hospital in Birmingham and is expected to survive his injury.
