Woman playing with handgun unintentionally shoots and kills stepson

A Pembroke Pines, Florida woman was fooling around with a handgun when she unintentionally shot and killed her 15-year-old stepson. According to a friend of the teen who was there that night the family was celebrating another child who had just graduated from elementary school.

The friend said the gun was on the dining room table and the stepmother was playing with it. He said she was laughing and told everyone to stay calm as she pointed the gun at everyone including the dogs. The teen left the room and a moment later he heard a gunshot. When he ran back into the room his friend was on the floor and he wasn't breathing.

According to the police: The firearm was discharged unintentionally due to negligence and mishandling." Prosecutors have yet to determine if charges will be filed.

5-year-old unintentionally shot and killed by 9-year-old. Days later mother of the 5-year-old shot and killed outside local restaurant.

A five-year-old South Bend, Indiana boy was shot and killed by his nine-year-old relative while visiting at the relative's house. The police said it was a "tragic accident"  but did not comment on how the 9-year-old got hold of the gun. (Note - this was not an accident, is was an unintentional discharged that could have been avoided.)

The boy's father told reporters, "We don't have guns in the house because that was one of my biggest fears.  Take the precautionary steps to have the guns."

The pastor who spoke at the boy's funeral told reporters, "I was compelled to say at the funeral that we never know the day nor the hour of our death. The family is mourning the death of a 5-year-old boy and is mourning for the 9-year-old relative who is suffering from the events. A gun may make a person feel powerful, but once you pull the trigger, you can't take it back. Individuals have to learn that with gun violence, nobody wins."

Just a few days after the boy's funeral, his 32-year-old mother was shot and killed outside of a South Bend restaurant.  The mother got into an argument with a 26-year-old woman inside the restaurant. The younger woman took a handgun from her purse and followed the mother outside, firing multiple shots at her and others who were fleeing. The mother was rushed to the hospital where she died of her injuries.

He was showing off his brand new Glock........

A 21-year-old Florida man, home on leave after a yearlong deployment in Iraq, was showing his aunt his new Glock handgun. She held the gun without ammunition and then he loaded the gun so she could feel the difference. But, he had trouble removing the magazine. He was turning the muzzle of the gun while trying to remove the magazine and the gun went off. The bullet went through his heart, killing him instantly.

Honestly, I really, really thought the gun wasn't loaded when I put it to his head and pulled the trigger

Shotgun Blast Rips Through Apartment Wall, Barely Misses Neighbor

A California man trying to store his shotgun instead shot it off sending pellets through the wall into his neighbor's apartment. The neighbor was surprised to look up and find a chunk of his television set had been blown away. Further examination showed some of the pellets passed narrowly over his head.
Instead of checking to see if his neighbor was okay, the 31-year-old shooter quickly put up a poster to cover the hole in his wall, wrapped his shotgun in a blanket and gave it to a relative.
"You're never expecting a couple bullets to come through your wall," said the neighbor, "but fortunately I'm alive."
Do you know what your neighbors are doing?
Ohh shoot.

You mean I shouldn't put a loaded handgun with the safety off in the pocket of my sweatshirt?

A Maine man shot himself in the calf when he set off a loaded handgun in his sweatshirt pocket. The 46-year-old quadriplegic was in the bathroom when the gun discharged.
After being released from the hospital he was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm by a felon.

Man Shot in Foot at Gun Show

Three friends were leaving a gun show in Florida on Sunday, walking back to their motorcycles. 63-year-old James Cowan goes to reload his handgun. (Gun shows don't allow you to bring loaded weapons into the show area. Hmmmm, why do you suppose that is?) Cowan unintentionally fires his gun and shoots 54-year-old Earl Persell in the foot.
Ohh shoot.
