Man who unintentionally shot himself while riding bicycle blamed shooting on men in hoodies

22-year-old Wendell Docteur, of Stratford, Connecticut was riding his bicycle with a loaded gun in his waistband. Docteur unintentionally shot himself in the right leg.

Doctors at the hospital reported the gunshot wound to the police. Docteur told police he was riding his bicycle when he was confronted by half a dozen men in black hoodies. He said the men took his money, shot him, and yelled "North End, North End" as they fled.

Police were skeptical of the story and when they asked Docteur why there was only a bullet exit hole in his pants he admitted that he had shot himself while riding.

Docteur was charged with making a false statement, unlawful discharge of a firearm and failure to report a lost firearm. Although Docteur has a permit for the handgun, he couldn't account for the weapon. He is scheduled to be arraigned Sept. 5th.
