Man showing off gun for new security guard job unintentionally shoots and kills friend

36-year-old Robert Jones, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, was about to start a job as a security guard. He took a gun-safety class in order to obtain an armed security-guard certificate and he got a concealed weapons permit.
The day before he was to start his new job he was showing off his new gun, which he thought was unloaded. He unintentionally discharged the gun, shooting his friend, Sandrea Smith, 35, in the left cheek. Sandrea died at the scene.
Jones was arrested and charged with third-degree murder, involuntary manslaughter, endangering another person, and weapons charges.
It should be noted that Jones' concealed weapons permit was issued by Florida, not Pennsylvania. While reports did not indicate if Jones had been denied a Pennsylvania permit, it is possible for those denied a permit in Pennsylvania to apply for a permit in Florida that will be recognized in Pennsylvania. A bill to close this concealed weapons permit loophole was introduced in the Pennsylvania legislature but failed to pass.

  1. Fresh from a "training" course. Did he actually have to fire the weapon to get his permit? Somehow I doubt it. If we can't count on freshly-trained security guards to be safe, what does this say about the average conceal carry permit holder?

  5. Whether y'all think it was an accident or not, he never should have pulled the gun out to show off and he pointed the gun at her and pulled the trigger without checking it out. She wasn't" his best friend, he used her because he knew she waa a large girl with low self esteem who didn't follow the advice of her family and friends.
everyone told her to stay away because he was reckless and a user and would kill her one day and he did.He always use to try and scare her but she would cover for him and not inform her family. He only dealt with women who were handicapped or who had low self esteem and. He was scared of confrontation with real men.
He will meet his maker one day and what is he going to tell the one who made him, that I'm really a nice guy who made a mistake. We all make mistakes but his was a eternal mistake which left a little boy to have to grow up without his mom and a grief sicken family.Robert didn't deserve Sandrea and he will answer for his stupid recklessness by God.

  6. Again people are twisting the truth, to make themselves look good, but the truth is it was an accident! Whether or not anyone wants to believe it or not! The truth is yes he is going to answer to god and so does everyone who are passing judgement and spinning the truth so that it will fit their idea of what they think to be the truth!

  7. This is something that should not have happened, and the people who truly knew Robert know that he would not harm a hair on his friend. He was not thinking and as a result his best friend is no longer here I agree whole heartedly that he should have been more careful! I know this was not a malicious act.

  8. Security dogs help a lot and also a good companion for us.A dog will sound very intimidating but there is not to much security once the intruder does something to these dogs.Guard Dogs London

  9. Whether if you are family or a friend of Robert Jones , I know for a fact that he was showing off his new fun because he had obtained a license from Florida and would not have been able to pass a real test from Pa. Most trifling want a be security or stupid thugs go this route. Also why would a person who allegedly attended Penn for three
years get a BS security job watching doors at a cheap club and getting paid under the table waste his time on a career like that especially at his age.Something else, you claim he was not thinking at the time, the guy got a call from the victim that she was stopping by to see him and his new found girl and family, why would you pull a gun out without checking it out anyway.I for one know what happen, just read the trial Robert was very devious and thought he was smart but he was a coward

  11. Neither the victim or the shooter had any business being near a gun. I would say what needs evaluation is whatever idiot gave him a concealed permit while he obviously doesn't understand basic safety. Even if the gun was empty that's why you don't ever point at someone's face. It's not complicated, just can't be stupid. Magazine out make sure the chambers clear and have the secondperson verify the chambers clear. The second person doesn't even need to know anything about guns, they just need to see that the chamber has nothing in it.
