18-year-old Brandon McKenzie was hanging out with his friend, 20-year-old Paul Salter, at a Subway restaurant in Millen, Georgia. The two men were passing a gun back and forth when the gun discharged. Brandon was shot. He was taken to the local hospital where he died.
Brandon was a junior at Jenkins County High School. He was a member of JROTC and also was in the school band.
Salter has been charged with involuntary manslaughter. The sheriff also said the two men stole the gun in a burglary a few weeks earlier.
Ohh shoot.
Oh the lessons:
ReplyDelete-- It's a safe assumption that the gun they stole had been purchased legally for home protection. I forget the exact statistic, but it was somewhere around 55% of guns used in crimes were stolen from homes. Just shows that being afraid of gun-wielding idiots, and purchasing a gun because of it, might actually lead to arming those idiots.
-- Kids and guns don't mix. Kids are too impulsive. And the NRA wants to lower the legal purchase age to 16!
-- Being in the JROTC, there's a pretty good chance he's had gun safety training. And yet, this happened.
They took it from his mom's house without permission. It wasn't exactly a robbery or anything..
